Crushing On

Minnie Mouse is one of Disney's most beloved characters, and one of the most fashionable--check out Lauren Conrad's new line of Minnie-inspired clothing for proof! For me, it's her signature polka dots that has me fashion inspired. Specifically, I am loving the raised polka dot pattern, called Dotted Swiss. It has such a vintage feel to it, I can't get enough of it. It looks absolutely classic on wedding dresses and cakes alike, but I am liking it on a casual summer blouse, paired with ripped denim. It's soft and sweet, without coming across as too school-girl. 2015 Cannes Film Festival Fashion

After a beautiful weekend spent celebrating birthdays, brunching, drinks in the city, Mexican dinners, some serious Spring cleaning and enjoying the gorgeous sunshine, I was happy to have some down time Monday evening. One of my favourite ways to wind down is by catching up on my celebrity gossip and fashions.

Luckily for me, the 2015 Cannes Film Festival has been featuring some seriously fabulous styles. I think you would be hard pressed to find anything more glamorous than a red carpet on the backdrop of the French Riviera. It is one of my favourite fashion moments of the year, as the celebs seem to pull out all of the stops with their fashion choices.

My standouts (from left) were Naomi Watts, Melanie Laurent, Rooney Mara and Diane Kruger. These women are always at the top of list when it comes to their style choices. They achieve what many try and fail to do, which is effortlessly blend classic with edgy. They are not afraid to make bold choices, but never appear that they had to try very hard doing so!

Trending

This month, I have been spotting a trend in fashion that takes my favourite Summer staple--white jeans--to the next level. White on white has been popping up everywhere, and there are a few keys to making this monochromatic look work. One, is playing with texture. It is important to mix your fabrics--jean, cottons, linen etc. so the outfit doesn't become stale. The second is layering. Throwing a white blazer on top of your cream tank instantly elevates your look (and is perfect for cooler Summer evenings).

Readying Your Wardrobe for Spring

I hope you enjoyed my Readying Your Home For Spring post last week. I have been having fun freshening up my space, opening up the windows, and letting that Spring fresh air inside. Now it's time to talk fashion. In terms of Spring clothing, my goal is to fill my wardrobe with classic staples in lighter fabrics and colours (minus the black circle skirt I bought today!).

Pastel pinks are everywhere right now, and I love the idea of it on a structured blazer--picture this with a crisp white t-shirt and a great pair of boyfriend jeans. A Canadian Spring often means cool evenings and muddy walkways, so instead of jumping into heels and ballet flats, a bootie is the perfect in-between shoe. My sister Haley has been lusting after pearl-back earrings for months now, and I am jumping on her bandwagon. I will have also be adding this fun Stella & Dot arrow ring to my jewellery box! Lace is here to stay, and I love the shape of this slightly cropped top from H&M. Finally, I will be adding a pop of colour with bright pink lips and a gorgeous floral Rifle Paper Co. phone case.

Check out my Spring wardrobes must-haves below, and let me know what you will be adding to your closet this season!
